How many mistakes does it take to ruin you? How many lies can a person tell before you see them for who they are?
Mia Johnson blew me away in more ways than I could count. Her body. Her taste. Her need. However, her poisonous past started to affect me, and I knew what that meant–what needed to be done. Still, I was never a man who listened to reason.
 This time I should have.

My name is Wesley Black, and this story may be twisted, but this woman is mine.

"Isn't this amazing?"
I turned and noticed a green-eyed beauty walking toward me. She wore a nude bandage dress that stopped right above her thighs and flaunted her body's slight curves. She carefully looked over the chrome railing that surrounded the second floor, took a sip of the dark liquid in her glass, and motioned to the various dancers in the sections.
"It amazes me how comfortable they are out there. They’re dancing like no one's watching them. I wish I had that type of courage."
She ran her fingers through her long, dark hair, taking another sip of her drink.
"There's nothing to be nervous about, beautiful. When you're dancing out there, it's just you and the music. You learn to tune out everything else."
She smiled, looking over at me. "Is that so, handsome?"
The look she gave me was familiar. It was a silent invitation to continue and possibly end the night with her trembling underneath me. I had to admit, she was tempting. She reminded me of someone, but I just couldn't put my finger on it.
"What's your name, beautiful?"
She hesitated but finally replied, "It’s Mia."
When she extended her right hand, I noticed the wedding ring on her left. I was sure she caught my gaze, because she cautiously pulled her hand away, touching her neck in a nervous gesture. I never let a woman’s marital status stop me. Truthfully, whatever we had would end the next morning, but something kept bothering me. I just couldn't put my finger on it. Mia? The name, combined with her beautifully sculpted face, seemed familiar, but I chose to let it go. It wasn’t important.
"I’m assuming you’re here alone?"
She turned back to face the crowd, moving to the beat of the music. I imagined she was pretending to be one of the women on the stage. She walked toward one of the couches close by, placing her drink on the table.
"I actually came with my friend. We were on the dance floor and then she disappeared. I’m sure she’s around here somewhere."
I took the seat next to her, motioning a waitress for a round of drinks.
“May I ask what you’re drinking?”
She gave me a soft smile. “One of my favorites, actually—Crown and Coke.”.”
I quickly informed the waitress of our choices. When she finished taking the order, I turned to face Mia on the couch.
“I had a feeling you had good taste.”
She shrugged. “Let’s just say the people I grew up around taught me well.”
I didn’t know where the feeling surfaced from, but her comment caused me to pause for a brief second.
“I can’t argue with that, beautiful. The knowledge of good taste doesn't always come naturally. I'm assuming you—”
She decided at that moment to place her hand on my thigh. She moved closer to where barely an inch of space was left between us and whispered into my ear.
"Are you going to tell me your name, or should I take a wild guess?"
I was a little disappointed when she finished her sentence. I thought she might be interested in where we could move things along, but she was proving to be a hard woman to read. I decided to play along and let the night run its course. If I didn'tsleep with her, the woman on the stage seemed interested. The rule of not sleeping with your employees wasn't one I enforced. I just tried to keep it professional during business hours—which didn’t always end up being the case.
"It's Wesley."
She appeared deep in thought after I answered, but eventually came around. It was as if she drifted off to somewhere else for a few seconds.
"I might be stranded here tonight, Wes. Maybe you could take me home?"
The shorting of my name made me laugh, but I could see this woman was battling with something. What women were thinking or brave enough to say never surprised me. I assumed it was her husband. He either cheated on her or they were havingsome type of fight. I wasn’t one to pry, so I simply ignored the fact she was married. My night was starting to look up after all.
"It's still early, but let me make a quick phone call. I'm sure I can get someone to keep an eye on things if we were to leave."
She looked confused. "What do you mean? Do you work here?"
I smiled. “I’m the owner, sweetheart. Just give me a few minutes to get some things situated. It shouldn’t take too long.”

I didn't know what I expected when I walked through the foyer of my apartment, but what I stepped into certainly was not it. Mia was dancing. Her heels were left on the side of the couch as she moved to the beat of a popular Caribbean tune playing through the sound system. The lights were all turned off as she danced in front of the large window. Her silhouette was illuminated by the various lights of the buildings outside. Her dark hair swayed back and forth as she moved sensually around the floor. She was wild and free, reckless. I was starting to desire her even more.
I knew before Alek clarified the situation I had seen this woman before. Before she had blossomed and become his wife. It surprised me Alek hadn’t realized who she was sooner, but he wasn’t there the night so many people's lives changed. He just made the decision. So how could he have known who this vibrant, attractive woman was?
It appeared Alek getting everything he wanted was shifting on him. The past he thought he could bury lived right underneath his roof, slept right beside him at night.
As I watched her dance barefoot around my living room, I realized this woman was nothing like the papers portrayed her to be. They described her as fragile and beautiful. Instead, she was sexy, adventurous, and possibly a force to be reckoned with. I could see right through the role she was playing. The obedient wife. A woman who kept her mouth shut to avoid issues. A People Pleaser. No. She definitely was not that. It seemed her patience was beginning to unravel. It appeared that was what brought people to my establishments. They needed a place to go and be themselves. A place where judgment wasn’t made.
I quietly walked over to the bar and poured myself a glass of scotch. This particular night, I had exceeded my daily limit. For some people, it might have been too much, but I was unaffected. I had built up a strong tolerance. The woman who danced around my living room was an entirely different story. I didn't realize she had continued drinking until I noticed the freshly opened bottle of Crown sitting on the bar. She wasn’t necessarily drunk, but she was far from being sober.
I didn’t interrupt her. Instead, I watched her for a good five minutes. The more I watched, the more I started to wonder what she knew. I had always been told I was good a reading people. It was a gift that helped me succeed in business. I was known to make smart decisions in determining if people were trustworthy.
Sadly, my gift wasn’t worth anything with Mia. If she knew something, she had a damn good poker face. The look that crossed her face when I accused her of setting me up in my office didn’t seem staged. She was genuinely shocked and confused. I also felt if she really knew her husband, she would’ve never stepped out on him. She would have never stepped foot into my club…period.
I took a few more sips of my drink before clearing my throat. She paused, then slowly turned in my direction. I decided to point out the obvious.
“I see you’ve made yourself at home.”

Wesley Black was a man who was off limits to me for obvious reasons, but I moved closer to him anyways–Indulged myself in his dangerous touch. Skillful hands. Sensual mouth. Then reality slapped me in the face. My past suddenly snuck its way back into my life. The lies. The truths. The regret. The memories. Sometimes you don’t really see the truth until it’s too late. I can attest to that. My name is Mia Johnson and this is not a love story.

~ EXCLUSIVE EXCERPT ~

It felt like ages before the vehicle stopped. After our short conversation, the ride had continued in silence. The man never once commented on my distress. In fact, no one saidanything. I had started to believe we would stay in the vehicle forever when I finally heard him speak again, but it wasn’t directed toward me. He was on the phone. “We’re here. Just making sure it’s okay to bring her in.” By the time the door opened, I considered refusing to get out of the car, but he had told me nothing would happen to me if I cooperated. However, him asking someone else if itwas okay to bring me in made me think I was some sort of bargaining chip. They wanted to be sure I wasn’t seen. Wanted to keep me hidden. So many negative thoughts began to swim in my head, I decided to just give in, surrendering to whatever I was walking into. I had put myself into my current situation by disobeying and skipping out on my security, but if Alek were doing this to teach me a lesson, I would never be able to forgive him. I sighed silently. In the back of my mind, I knew it wasn’t my father or him. I just prayed for those possibilities because, in the end, I knew I wouldn’t be safe wherever I was going. If it weren’t them, I had walked right into the arms of the enemy. I knew the only reason the enemy would send for me was to use me. Use me to threaten my husband…or my father, if he had really come back. What if this person were the same one who had threatened my father and killed my mother? What if it was Alek’s enemy? The one who tried to shoot him? There were so many possibilities, I gave up thinking about them. “Watch your step,” the man said, grasping my arm. I was ushered out of the vehicle. We walked a few minutes, then stopped. I heard a ding and doors slide open. An elevator? I was led inside. As the doors closed, I held my breath, claustrophobia closing in on me. The man didn’t say anything else, yet I knew we weren’t alone. I heard breathing. My heartbeat quickened as the elevator climbed. When the doors finally opened, I felt a light shove and stepped forward. The elevator doors closed and I was met with silence. Was I the only one who stepped off? I waited to be attacked or something, but that didn’t happen. What did happen left me confused, breathless…and aroused. I smelled that familiar scent–his scent. I shivered as arms wrapped around me, pulling me against a hard chest. I felt wetness develop between my legs as his hand slid up my dress, feeling for the evidence of my need, my desire. I was no longer scared or worried. I knew where I was because there were so many signs of him that would be forever etched in my brain. His smell. His touch. His dominant aura. I would never be able to forget him. As the fabric was gently removed from my face, the person turned me to face him.
